Christopher DiPompeo
Partner, Restructuring
Christopher DiPompeo is a partner in Willkie’s Restructuring and Litigation Departments, and serves as Co-Chair of the Bankruptcy Litigation practice. He is based in the Firm’s Washington, DC office.
Chris’s practice focuses on bankruptcy-related disputes and litigation arising out of all types of financial distress. He has represented major creditors, debtors and shareholders in some of the most significant corporate reorganizations in the United States.
Chris has also counseled clients and litigated issues related to liability management exercises, and he regularly advises manufacturers in disputes with distressed suppliers and customers, both inside and outside of bankruptcy.
Chris has been recognized as a “Top 40 Under 40” restructuring professional by the American Bankruptcy Institute and as a “Rising Star” in Washington, D.C., by The National Law Journal.
Earlier in his career, Chris served as a law clerk for Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., at the United States Supreme Court and for Judge Paul V. Niemeyer on the United Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Prior to joining Willkie, Chris was a partner at another international law firm, focusing on restructuring matters and distressed litigation. Earlier in his career, Chris clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts at the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Paul Niemeyer at the Fourth Circuit.

- In re Sanchez Energy Corporation: Represent an ad hoc group of senior secured noteholders and DIP Lenders in post-confirmation litigation concerning lien-avoidance issues and the ownership of the reorganized debtors.
- In re Ligado Networks LLC: Represented a major creditor and contract counterparty in the chapter 11 case of a satellite operator.
- In re Silvergate Capital Corporation: Represented the largest common equity holder in in the chapter 11 case of one of the most significant banks serving the cryptocurrency industry.
- In re Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York: Represented one of the largest Roman Catholic dioceses in the United States in its chapter 11 case.
- The Boeing Company v. GKN, et al.: Represented an aerospace defense contractor in a dispute with a distressed supplier, which manufactured critical parts for fighter jets.
- In re Motors Liquidation Company Avoidance Action Trust v. JPMorgan, et al.: Represented a group of term loan lenders in post-confirmation litigation seeking the avoidance of a lien securing a $1.5 billion term loan.
- In re GDC Technics, LLC: Represented an aerospace defense contractor in the chapter 11 case of one of its suppliers, which manufactured custom interiors for highly specialized aircraft.
- In re Commonwealth of Puerto Rico: Represented an ad hoc group of secured note holders in the PROMESA case of Puerto Rico’s employees retirement system.
- In re Caesars Entertainment Operating Company: Represented the Official Committee of Second Lien Noteholders in the involuntary and voluntary chapter 11 cases of a casino operator.
- In re Energy Futures Holding Co.: Represented a major creditor in an adversary proceeding brought by other creditors regarding the terms of a failed restructuring support agreement.
- In re City of Detroit: Represented the City of Detroit in its historic chapter 9 bankruptcy case.
