Willkie is delighted to have advised Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. (“Oaktree”) on all aspects of a significant strategic partnership with Allianz, at Lloyd’s of London.
The partnership includes Oaktree’s establishment of Syndicate 1890, which will commence underwriting from 1 January 2026. Syndicate 1890 will participate on Allianz’s outwards reinsurance program, on a multi-year basis. Oaktree will capitalise the syndicate and will act as investment manager for its assets.
The transaction demonstrates the growing appetite for private and other non-traditional capital providers for investment into insurance risks and related capital. Oaktree brings deep insurance investment and asset management expertise and a proven track record in the sector and, in partnering with one of the largest and most diverse global insurance groups in Allianz, evidences the continued growth of the Lloyd’s market and private equity investment into the insurance sector.
