Matthew Block is a partner in Willkie’s Asset Management Department. He is based in the Firm's New York office. 

Matt focuses his practice on private equity fund formation with a particular emphasis on secondaries and other liquidity solutions focused transactions. He regularly advises fund sponsors on the formation and operation of private equity funds, real estate funds, credit funds, distressed funds and seed capital funds. He has advised on fund raises ranging in size from under $100 million to over $30 billion and has advised clients in connection with the entire fundraise lifecycle, including end of term GP-led portfolio company restructurings. In addition, he has advised clients in GP-stakes transactions and seeding arrangements, including minority investments, seed capital transactions, and strategic partnership arrangements. He has also advised institutional limited partners and family offices in connection with investments in the alternative investment space.

Matt has maintained an active pro bono practice, and has worked on immigration matters for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.

 

Experience

Prior to joining Willkie, Matt was a partner at another global law firm in New York.  In 2011, he participated in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Summer Honors Program.   

Matt is a member of the New York State Bar Association. A certified public accountant, he is also a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
