Willkie has been shortlisted for the Case of the Year honors at the LexisNexis Legal Awards 2026 for its conduct of Merricks v. Mastercard, a lawsuit on behalf of approximately 46 million consumers that was the first collective action to be certified in the United Kingdom.
A Willkie litigation team in London led by partner Boris Bronfentrinker represented Walter Merricks CBE in the landmark collective action seeking billions in damages against Mastercard on behalf of UK consumers who allegedly paid higher prices due to Mastercard’s unlawful interchange fees. Willkie secured a settlement at the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal in May 2025, in litigation that ran for nearly a decade and created numerous groundbreaking and precedent-setting rulings at first instance, in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
The Willkie team was led by partner Boris Bronfentrinker and more recently included partner Michelle Clark, with associates Nishtha Mahajan, Oliwia Siutkowska, Ronan Chisholm and Cameron Wright.
The LexisNexis Legal Awards 2026 recognize outstanding achievement and innovation across the legal profession in the UK. The award winners will be honored at an event in London on April 16.
