Willkie has been named to the GAR 100 2024, Global Arbitration Review’s annual guide to the top international arbitration firms worldwide.

GAR noted the “eye-catching results” in major arbitration proceedings and ringing endorsements from clients that earned Willkie a place among the industry leaders. It highlighted the experience of Grégoire Bertrou and Duncan Speller, Co-Chairs of Willkie’s International Arbitration Practice Group, and the growth of the practice across Willkie’s offices in Europe and the U.S. It also noted the arbitration capabilities of partner Matthias Schrader in Frankfurt, partner Dharshini Prasad in London, partners Shaimaa Hussein and John Brennan in New York, and counsel Sergey Alekhin in Paris.

The publication recognized Willkie’s recent success in a series of high-profile arbitration proceedings, including victories for the founder and ex-CEO of Thailand’s largest wind energy company, Nopporn Suppipat, relating to a fraudulent scheme to seize his shares in the company. Willkie’s accomplishments include securing an $860 million judgment for Suppipat in a UK court.

GAR also noted Willkie’s successful representation of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in numerous proceedings, including securing the dismissal of a $300 million claim brought by a British Virgin Islands entity and prevailing in multiple cases brought by Kazakh state-owned entities. In addition, it cited Willkie’s representation of a group of Armenian investors in a proceeding against the Republic of Azerbaijan relating to hydroelectric power plants, and the firm’s successful defense of leading software company Synopsys in a patent dispute before the International Chamber of Commerce.

GAR is the leading resource on international arbitration news and community intelligence.
