Amanda Amert, Barbara Grayson and Sara Tonnies Horton were recognized among the top female lawyers in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Amanda Amert, Barbara Grayson and Sara Tonnies Horton have been named among the “2022 Notable Women in Law” by Crain’s Chicago Business. The annual series recognizes the top female attorneys in the Chicago area for their leadership and achievements in the law as well as their impact as mentors and pro bono advocates.

They were profiled in a special editorial feature showcasing more than 140 senior-level practitioners who “brilliantly illustrate the sheer power of women in law.”

Amanda Amert is a partner in the Willkie’s Litigation Department and Chair of the ERISA Litigation Group. Crain’s noted her record of success defending major class actions for Aon, Northern Trust and Ulta, and for recently representing Northwestern University in an ERISA class action before the U.S. Supreme Court. The publication also highlighted her success helping to launch Willkie’s Chicago office in 2020 and overseeing its growth into a diverse team of more than 60 lawyers.

Barbara Grayson is a partner and Midwest Chair of Willkie’s Private Clients Group. Her practice focuses on a full range of legal issues related to multigenerational wealth. Crain’s noted her work advising individuals, families and family-owned businesses regarding governance and succession issues, fiduciary responsibilities, and business and charitable activities. The publication highlighted the impact she has had helping clients support Chicago’s cultural institutions and her service on the advisory board for the Women in Law Empowerment Forum.

Sara Tonnies Horton is partner and Co-Chair of the Patent & Other IP Litigation Practice Group. Crain’s noted her work at the forefront of the patent bar, including in high-profile disputes before trial courts across the country and in Europe, the Federal Circuit and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. The publication highlighted her current representation of Pfizer in patent litigation relating to its COVID vaccine, as well as her impact teaching trial advocacy at Harvard Law School and as Co-Chair of the Amicus Committee of the PTAB Bar Association.
