Tan Lu, a partner in the Corporate & Financial Services Department in Houston, was recently the subject of a feature Q&A published by The Texas Lawbook. Tan joined Willkie in February 2023.

In the Q&A, Tan discusses why he made the move to Willkie, some of his recent deals, and key developments in his practice area, among other topics.

When discussing why he joined Willkie, Tan explained, “Willkie’s Houston team is consistently involved in high-caliber private equity and energy transactions across the industry spectrum, including oil and gas, LNG, renewables and energy transition.”  He went on to mention that he has “…been extremely impressed by the collegial culture and teamwork among the partners at Willkie’s Houston office.”

In the area of emerging trends and key developments, Tan said he has seen a wave of acquisitions and consolidations in the oil and gas sector from mid-2022 through early this year. He went on to note, “The current market environment has also led to increased appetite for North American oil and gas M&A and investment opportunities in the middle market PE space, which is a sweet spot for Willkie and one our clients are keenly focused on.”

Tan advises private equity firms, public companies and financial institutions on complex transactions involving a range of energy and infrastructure assets. His practice focuses on upstream and midstream acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, private equity investments, and drilling and oilfield services. In addition, he drafts and negotiates agreements for stock and asset purchases and sales, farmouts, joint ventures, oilfield services, onshore and offshore drilling, and management-related matters.
