Willkie advises Cowen Group, a diversified financial services firm, in its acquisition of Conifer Securities, LLC, the prime services division of Conifer Financial Services LLC.

On July 30, Willkie client Cowen Group, Inc. and Conifer Securities, LLC announced the signing of a definitive agreement under which Cowen Group will acquire Conifer Securities, the prime services division of Conifer Financial Services LLC. The transaction is expected to expand Cowen Group’s market opportunity with emerging and established hedge fund managers.

Conifer Financial Services is a leading independent asset services firm offering front-to-back capabilities across all asset classes to pensions, endowments, family offices, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital managers, RIAs and traditional asset managers. The company has over 200 clients worldwide representing more than $110 billion of combined assets under administration.

Cowen Group is a diversified financial services firm that provides alternative asset management, investment banking, research, and sales and trading services. Its two business segments are Ramius and affiliates, which make up the company’s alternative investment segment, and Cowen and Company and affiliates, which comprise the company’s broker-dealer segment. Earlier in July, Willkie represented Cowen Group in its deal to acquire Concept Capital Markets, a leading provider of prime brokerage services.

The current deal was handled by partners David Boston, Laura Delanoy, Mark Holdsworth, Thomas Meloro and Richard Reinhold, of counsel Martin Miller, and associates Manuel Miranda, Dunia Rkein, Ryan Stott, Dorna Mohaghegh, DJ Stauber and Jennifer Schanes.
