Real Estate partner Eugene A. Pinover and associate Lisa M. Zana co-authored an article with Joseph Philip Forte for the summer edition of the Shopping Center Legal Update (Vol. 22 Issue 2) on the impact of the World Trade Center attacks on terrorism insurance. The article, “Terrorism Insurance After September 11: Is Federal Assistance Needed?,” examines the impact the events of September 11th have had on the availability and cost of insurance in the United States for terrorist acts; the disruption to the U.S. real estate market for acquisitions, development and financing caused by the reduced availability and increased costs of terrorism insurance; and the evolving responses of the private and governmental sectors to the financial risk of terrorism in the United States. The authors provide an in-depth analysis of the abrupt shifts in the market for terrorism insurance and discuss the current debate on whether federal assistance is still needed. Eugene Pinover is a partner in Willkie’s Real Estate Department, representing domestic and foreign real estate developers and institutional clients in acquisitions, sales, restructuring and sophisticated financings, and development projects throughout the United States.
