Alex Weingarten, Managing Partner of Willkie’s Los Angeles office, has been profiled by The Recorder as a finalist for “Office Managing Partner of the Year” at the 2026 California Legal Awards.
In a Q&A, Alex, who launched Willkie’s Los Angeles office in 2021 and has grown it into a market leader with approximately 115 attorneys, discussed his approach to leadership, his achievements as managing partner, and his outlook on AI as a tool to enhance legal practice.
Alex highlighted his success in not only attracting top talent but in building an office with a unique culture and commitment to collective excellence.
“The quantity of our growth has been incredible, but it is nothing compared to the quality,” Alex told The Recorder. “We are a group where the sum is greater than the whole of our individual parts and it is because everyone has bought into being part of a team approach.”
Alex also noted the need for lawyers to integrate AI as part of a well-rounded practice. As managing partner, he is focused on helping up-and-coming lawyers leverage the efficiencies of AI – and to use it conscientiously – while giving them the opportunity to develop substantive experience.
The 2026 California Legal Awards, presented by The Recorder and Law.com, will be held in Los Angeles on June 24.
