Shaimaa M. Hussein, Co-Chair of Willkie’s M&A Litigation Practice Group, has been named an Empire State Counsel® 2025 Outstanding Pro Bono Volunteer by the New York State Bar Association for her commitment to pro bono advocacy.

Shaimaa has dedicated herself to pro bono service throughout her career and has been a key member of Willkie’s Pro Bono Committee for many years, helping shape the mission and long-term goals of the pro bono practice. Her extensive pro bono efforts include representing asylum seekers from around the world, women in contested divorce proceedings and New Yorkers fighting to uphold housing rights, among other matters. 

The award recognizes Shaimaa’s contributions over the past year and highlights her leadership in pro bono, the impact of her advocacy and her ongoing work to support access to justice. She is one of just two attorneys to receive NYSBA’s outstanding volunteer award. Shaimaa has received numerous pro bono honors over the course of her career, including recognitions from Legal Services NYC, Legal Aid Society and the Federal Bar Council.
