Andrew Copans, West Coast Co-Chair of Willkie’s Private Wealth Group, has been named to the “Top Estate and Wealth Management Lawyers 2025,” Daily Journal’s inaugural list of the leading trust, estate planning and probate lawyers in California.
Andrew was recognized as one of the premier estate and wealth planning attorneys serving high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and estates. Daily Journal noted that he has 20 years’ experience advising on all aspects of estate and wealth planning, including international estate planning, business succession planning, family office structuring and administration, and post-death estate and trust administration.
“Andrew Copans has built his career around one central mission: helping wealthy families preserve and transfer their assets across generations while navigating the intricate web of tax laws and family dynamics that come with significant wealth,” Daily Journal noted.
The profile highlighted his recent work helping a business owner transfer ownership of his company to a trust, combining wealth transfer with business succession planning. In another instance, Andrew created a plan that transfers the majority of a business owner’s company to a multi-generational dynasty trust, with the income flowing to the client’s private foundation in perpetuity – a structure that allows the business to continue operating after the owner’s death while accomplishing charitable goals and avoiding estate taxes.
“I enjoy problem solving and creating new opportunities and ways to ensure my clients’ entities and legacies are protected,” Andrew told Daily Journal.
