Willkie and co-counsel were recognized in The AmLaw Litigation Daily with a Litigator of the Week “Shout Out” for advancing an Anti-Terrorism Act case on behalf of U.S. service members and their families against Lafarge S.A., a French building materials manufacturer that provided support to ISIS and the al-Nusrah Front in Syria.

On August 29, Senior Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York denied Lafarge’s bid to dismiss the case for lack of personal jurisdiction and allowed the plaintiffs’ conspiracy claims to proceed. The lawsuit, brought on behalf of victims of terrorist attacks in Syria and Iraq between 2012 and 2017, alleges that Lafarge conspired with the terrorists, contributing millions of dollars in order to keep operating its cement plant in Northern Syria.
