Partner Stuart Lombardi has been profiled in Law360 as a “Rising Star” in recognition of his achievements in significant bankruptcy litigation matters. He is one of five attorneys recognized in the Bankruptcy category as a top bankruptcy lawyer under the age of 40 for 2025.

In a Q&A profile with Law360, Stuart discussed his proudest moment as an attorney, the most notable cases he has recently litigated, and what drew him to bankruptcy as a practice area.

A partner in the Firm’s Litigation Department in New York, Stuart initially joined Willkie as first-year associate and now serves as a first-chair bankruptcy litigator and a mentor to junior attorneys. In the article, he noted that he enjoys seeing associates practice trial examinations and take on challenges, particularly in the bankruptcy case of talc supplier Whittaker Clark & Daniels Inc.

Law360 highlighted the $1.3 billion buyout agreement he secured for an asbestos trust related to a former subsidiary of Honeywell International as one of the biggest cases of his career. The profile also noted his pro bono counsel to some of the parents of children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary school in a Texas bankruptcy case against right-wing conspiracist Alex Jones.

In discussing the start of his career as a litigator, Stuart said that he didn’t expect to become involved in bankruptcy work until he joined a case as a second-year associate. "I had a blast, and I could look down the road and see bankruptcy is a practice area that moves quickly and gets you a lot of on-your-feet experience."
