David was recognized as a leading talent across the insurance-linked securities market and Willkie was honored for its cutting-edge work.

Associate David Griffiths was named “Young ILS Professional of the Year” and Willkie was recognized for its work on two market-leading transactions at the 2022 Trading Risk Awards.

David’s recognition as the top young professional in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) market is further distinguished by the fact that lawyers are rarely selected for the honor, which has historically gone to emerging leaders in the banking, insurance underwriting and financial advisory sectors.

The award recognizes his leadership and accomplishments advising prominent brokers, cedents and investors on an array of sophisticated ILS transactions, including major collateralized reinsurance deals, sidecars and catastrophe bonds. In addition to excelling at the forefront of the ILS deal market, David, a London-based associate in the Corporate & Financial Services Department, is a sought-after resource to clients and regularly addresses emerging issues and topics in the field.

In addition to David’s award, two Willkie transactions were recognized by Trading Risk: R&Q’s property and casualty run-off vehicle Gibson Re, for which Matthew Stern and Michael Groll acted as deal counsel, was named “Non-Life Transaction of the Year;” and Ledger Investing, an insurtech start-up counseled by Matthew Stern and Joseph Cunningham, was named “Initiative of the Year.”

David and other award winners were honored at an event on April 28, 2022, at The Savoy in London.
