Willkie was profiled in Law360’s 2017 Practice Group of the Year series as one of five firms to be recognized for its white collar work. Close to 750 law firm submissions across 35 practice areas were submitted to Law360 for consideration in this annual series.

Noting Willkie’s excellence, cross-border teamwork and landmark victories achieved this year, Law360 highlighted how the firm “won a rare Second Circuit reversal of a former Rabobank employee's conviction for Libor manipulation and secured a nearly $4.8 million settlement on behalf of an investment firm facing an SEC investigation,” landing it on this year’s list.

Law360 discussed how partners in Willkie's New York and London offices worked together to exonerate Rabobank's Anthony Allen from Libor manipulation charges in a cornerstone case before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (U.S. v. Anthony Allen). The firm achieved a major victory this past July when a Second Circuit panel found that federal prosecutors relied on inadmissible testimony obtained by UK authorities. The article also highlights the group’s success on behalf of hedge fund Deerfield Management Co. in reaching a favorable settlement in August with the SEC in the agency’s insider trading case against the company.

Quoted throughout the article are partners Michael Schachter and William Stellmach, Co-Chairs of the firm’s White Collar Defense Practice Group, based in New York and Washington, and Peter Burrell, partner and head of the Litigation, Compliance & Enforcement and White Collar Defense Practices in London.
