Willkie partner Steven Seidman has been named by The American Lawyer as one of its “2015 Dealmakers of the Year” for his representation of Men’s Wearhouse Inc. in its successful acquisition of Jos. A. Bank Inc.
The story, which ran online and in the April issue of the magazine, noted that Mr. Seidman, who is Co-Chair of Willkie’s Corporate and Financial Services Department and Co-Chair of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice Group, employed the rarely used “Pac-Man defense” to “help Men’s Wearhouse Inc. beat back an unsolicited takeover bid by smaller rival Jos. A. Bank Inc., only to gobble up the bidder itself … .”
The American Lawyer noted that its Dealmakers of the Year section featured 20 transactions in 2014 “where effective lawyering truly made the difference.” Attorneys were selected to “spotlight creative thinking, novel approaches and innovative work.”
