Tara L. Thieme is an associate in the Intellectual Property Department. Tara’s practice focuses on patent litigation, as well as client counseling on intellectual property issues that arise in transactions, including licensing, research and development, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy. Tara’s litigation experience encompasses an array of technologies, with a particular focus on pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

Tara’s litigation experience encompasses an array of technologies, with a particular focus on pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

Selected Significant Matters

  • Amgen v. Hospira (erythropoietin) – Currently representing Hospira in one of the first litigations under the BPCIA regarding Epogen.
  • Merck v. Hospira (ertapenem) – Successfully defended a favorable district court judgment for Hospira at the Federal Circuit in this litigation concerning Invanz. This case received the LMG Life Sciences Award for one of the Hatch-Waxman Impact Cases of 2018.

Prior Experience

Tara previously interned for Administrative Law Judge Thomas Pender of the International Trade Commission. Tara also previously worked as a patent agent, prosecuting patents in a wide variety of fields, including chemical refining, medical devices, batteries, and electronics.
