Willkie has joined a New York City initiative to provide pro bono legal assistance to thousands of asylum seekers through the newly launched Asylum Application Help Center.
Tens of thousands of migrants have arrived in New York City over the past year. While a great number have been paroled into the country by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, many are eligible for asylum and need assistance filling out and filing their asylum applications prior to the expiration of the one-year deadline from their date of entry into the U.S.
With pro bono support from Willkie and other law firms and volunteers, and in consultation with immigration legal service providers, the Asylum Application Help Center is helping asylum seekers complete their asylum applications, the first step toward work authorization and the start of a new life in the United States. The Asylum Application Help Center is operating out of the American Red Cross Greater New York headquarters in Midtown Manhattan through August 4, 2023.
