Willkie was recognized for its role in the chapter 11 restructuring of Avianca Holdings S.A., which was named “Restructuring Deal of the Year” at the Latin Lawyer Awards 2022.
The Firm served as counsel to the official committee of unsecured creditors of Avianca Holdings S.A. and its 38 affiliated debtors in their chapter 11 cases. Avianca, the second-largest airline in Latin America, filed for chapter 11 protection in May 2020 with reported outstanding indebtedness of approximately $5.4 billion and emerged from bankruptcy in December 2021 having significantly reduced its debt and raised $1.7 billion in new investment.
