On June 30, as part of the firm’s Diversity Speaker Series, Willkie’s LGBTQ Affinity Group hosted a webinar titled “The Intersections of Race, Gender, Sexuality, Ethnicity and Violence.” The event featured a presentation by Kylar Broadus, long-time activist, author, professor, attorney and pioneer in the LGBT and Trans movements. The event was held in conjunction with the close of Pride Month and was moderated by Sruti Swaminathan, an associate leader of the LGBTQ Affinity Group.

Kylar is the founder and director of the Trans People of Color Coalition, the only national organization dedicated to the civil rights of transgender people of color, and is the first openly transgender person to speak before the Senate. Kylar addressed various topics, including the intersection of race, gender, sexuality and ethnicity.

Willkie’s affinity groups include: Asian and Pacific Islander Affinity Group, Black Affinity Group, Latinx Affinity Group, LGBTQ Affinity Group, and South Asian and Middle Eastern Affinity Group.
