New York, NY (December 12, 2018) --- Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP today announced the opening of its office in Palo Alto, California. The office, located at 1801 Page Mill Road, will be the firm’s first West Coast office. Launching the office will be Tiffany K. Lee and Matthew D. Berger, both former Paul Hastings LLP corporate partners who have significant experience representing leading global technology companies.

Ms. Lee’s practice focuses on a wide variety of technology transactions including mergers and acquisitions, private equity financing and intellectual property issues, as well as negotiating agreements for clients in a wide range of industries including software, cloud and other software-enabled services, life sciences, healthcare, electronics, semiconductor, and media and entertainment. She received a dual BA in Economics and Chinese from Stanford University, and a JD from Harvard Law School. Ms. Lee has been appointed managing partner of the office.

Mr. Berger’s practice focuses on complex technology and commercial transactions and intellectual property counseling and advice for clients in the software, electronics, semiconductor, life sciences, and other high technology industries, including for M&A, strategic alliance and joint venture, development, licensing, cloud service and commercial deals. Mr. Berger was the Global Chair of the Technology Transactions practice at Paul Hastings. He received a BA from Cornell University and a JD from the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Ms. Lee and Mr. Berger will initially be joined by a group of Willkie attorneys specializing in public and private M&A and private equity in the technology space, who will relocate from New York.

The firm will add additional lateral and other partners and associates to the Palo Alto office. The Palo Alto opening follows the successful launch of Willkie’s Houston office at the end of 2014. Since then, the office, which focuses on M&A, private equity and finance in the energy sector, has grown to over 30 lawyers.

Willkie Co-Chair Gordon Caplan stated: “We are very excited that Tiffany and Matt have decided to join our expanding technology-focused corporate, M&A and private equity platforms and are bringing their extensive and highly regarded technology transactional expertise to our newest office. Willkie goes where the highest quality talent and energy is located. We have a longstanding and extensive client base in Palo Alto, and California more generally. Finally opening up a physical presence there makes sense for our clients and our practice.”

“The combination of Willkie’s extensive experience and depth in M&A and other corporate transactions with our extensive experience in technology, IP and commercial transactions will provide a tremendous platform for technology M&A and other transactions for clients,” said Mr. Berger. “With Willkie’s Silicon Valley arrival and the natural synergies between our broad technology transactions experience and highly regarded corporate, M&A and private equity capabilities, we are excited for a greater and more value-added collaboration with current and prospective clients, local, domestic and abroad,” said Ms. Lee.

Willkie’s international network provides comprehensive legal services to clients. The firm represents a number of clients in the technology sector in a variety of matters including M&A, private equity, capital markets, finance, intellectual property, litigation and other business combinations.
