The firm and Chairman Steve Gartner were recognized for dedication to creating a truly diverse U.S. legal profession.

The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) honored Willkie and firm chairman Steve Gartner with a Compass Award at its Annual Meeting on October 16 in Washington, DC. The award is given to member organizations and their leaders with a strong track record of participating in LCLD programs designed to attract, inspire, and nurture the diverse talent in their firms. Steve, along with Kim Walker, Willkie’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, represented Willkie at the LCLD Annual Meeting.

LCLD is an organization of more than 300 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who have dedicated themselves to creating a diverse U.S. legal profession. Its action programs, designed to help a new generation of attorneys ascend to leadership positions, include the Fellows Program, which targets high-potential mid-level attorneys from diverse backgrounds, the Pathfinder Program, which targets early career attorneys, and the 1L LCLD Scholars Program, which expands the number of opportunities for diverse first-year law students.

This past year, Willkie attorneys participated in LCLD’s Fellows and Pathfinders Programs, and mentored LCLD 1L Scholars.
