Mr. Schachter is one of six attorneys nationwide named as an MVP in the area of White Collar.

Litigation partner Michael Schachter was profiled for Law360’s 2017 MVP series as one of only six attorneys nationwide to be recognized in the White Collar category.

Among his successes in 2017, Mr. Schachter is heralded for winning reversal and complete dismissal of all charges against the first defendants charged with LIBOR manipulation in a cornerstone case before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (U.S. v. Anthony Allen). Mr. Schachter told Law360, “There is really, I think, for any white collar lawyer, or any lawyer really, no greater thrill than the opportunity to call a client and deliver the news that this long and unbelievably stressful experience for him and his family is behind him.” Law360 also highlights Mr. Schachter’s success on behalf of hedge fund Deerfield Management Co. in reaching a favorable settlement in August with the SEC in the agency’s insider trading case against the company.

In discussing his career as a white collar attorney (both as a former prosecutor and now as a defense lawyer), Mr. Schachter commented, “In white collar matters, even where someone has crossed a line, it does not define them as people. It is often tied to an error in judgment, but it does not define them and doesn’t change that they may be good people, good members of their community. I still welcome the opportunity to help them.”

In making their MVP selections, Law360 notes the attorneys “distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.”
