Two portfolio companies of Insight Venture Partners unite to create small and mid-market data protection platform.

Unitrends, the leading provider of all-in-one backup, archiving, instant recovery and disaster recovery solutions, announced it has signed an agreement to acquire PHD Virtual Technologies, an innovator of virtual backup and disaster recovery assurance solutions. The acquisition will enable Unitrends  to  leverage PHD Virtual's proven technology platform and data protection products, designed for small and medium-size businesses.

Both companies have primary investments from Insight Venture Partners, a leading global private equity and venture capital firm. Since its founding in 1995, Insight has raised more than $7.6 billion and invested in more than 190 growth-stage software, eCommerce, internet, and data-services companies. Willkie recently handled Insight’s acquisition of Unitrends. 

The current matter was handled by partners Gordon Caplan, Matthew Guercio, Jordan Messinger, Hillel Jacobson and William Dye, associates Marit Spekman, Marisa Matays and Rose Ohanesian, and law clerk Tristan Freeman.
