Mr. Brown will practice in Willkie’s Tax Department, specializing in the tax aspects of complex investment fund transactions. 

Willkie is pleased to announce that James R. Brown has joined the New York office effective February 15.    Formerly a partner at Ropes & Gray, Mr. Brown will practice in Willkie’s Tax Department, specializing in the tax aspects of complex investment fund transactions.  Mr. Brown regularly advises sponsors of collective investment funds on tax structuring and operational issues relating to these funds, including the taxation of registered and unregistered investment funds.  He also provides advice regarding acquisitions, mergers, recapitalizations, and other types of leveraged transactions.  He is the co-author of Taxation of Regulated Investment Companies and Their Shareholders, the leading treatise on 1940 Act investment fund taxation.
