The German association of the Internet economy (eco Electronic Commerce Forum e.V.) has chosen Willkie Farr & Gallagher amongst various other law firms to represent several Internet Service Providers (ISP) located in the German federal state Northrhine Westfalia in a court action against content blocking orders the ISPs received from the local administration in Duesseldorf. These orders have led to an uproar in the German Internet community as they require ISPs domiciled in Northrhine Westfalia to block the content of certain websites which are operated from the United States. The court action is regarded as a landmark case on the responsibility of German ISPs and Access Providers for third party content. The Willkie litigation team will be headed by Willkie partner Sven-Erik Heun and associate Katrin Zwetkow who reside in Willkie’s Frankfurt office. Mr. Heun heads a team of specialized lawyers focusing on the regulatory as well as commercial aspects of telecommunications, the Internet, and e-commerce law.
