Partner and head of the Latin America practice Maria-Leticia Ossa Daza will provide introductory remarks. Willkie will serve as a sponsor for the event.

On January 27, legal defense and education fund LatinoJustice will celebrate its fifth decade of service to the Latinx community with an address from its President & General Counsel, Juan Cartagena.

Partner and head of the Latin America practice group Maria-Leticia Ossa Daza will provide introductory remarks for Mr. Cartagena. Willkie will serve a sponsor for the event.

After the address, members of LatinoJustice staff will share further insights and details about the fund’s work on economic justice, immigrant rights, voting rights and criminal justice reform efforts.

Currently, a Willkie team is working on a matter referred to the firm by LatinoJustice to address and remedy issues raised by a community group concerning a Long Island, New York school district. These issues include the poor academic performance of brown and black students; corruption and mismanagement that has diverted much-needed resources from academic offerings; nepotism in hiring by the district’s administrators resulting in the recruitment of unqualified teachers; and the school power structure threatening Latino parents with immigration consequences.
