Joseph Ferraro and Michael Groll spoke at the SIFMA Insurance- and Risk-Linked Securities Conference (IRLS 2016) on February 24.
This annual conference held in New York City features experts, thought leaders, sponsors and institutional investors discussing the latest ILS developments and how the convergence of insurance with the capital markets is driving industry growth and change.
Partner Joseph Ferraro spoke on the panel “Growing the ILS Market: The Legal Perspective,” which explored how simplification, standardization and streamlining of documentation can foster the growth of a liquid and vibrant ILS marketplace, as well as addressed emerging trends in ILS products and documentation from a legal perspective.
Partner Michael Groll spoke on the panel “The Decision to Access Alternative Capital – Different Products and Strategies,” which, in light of Alternative Capital growth outpacing traditional reinsurance to impact the overall market for risk transfer, examined the cedant’s and investor’s motivations to pursue or not pursue each of the varying Alternative Capital strategies (catastrophe bonds/144A and private placements, collateralized reinsurance and sidecars).
