While many of our associates start their careers at Willkie, some join us from other firms, in-house positions, or government. We hire lawyers at different levels of experience based on specific needs.
Our partners are directly involved in the hiring process and take an active role in recruiting lateral candidates with the goal of ensuring that candidates have broad exposure to both the substance of our work and our lawyers in relevant practice areas. For most experienced attorneys, the interview process consists of meetings with multiple partners and associates. Candidates are also encouraged to meet with associates more informally over lunch or dinner.
Once a lateral associate is hired, our focus turns to ensuring a smooth transition. We immediately integrate lateral associates into our assigning system and training programs and encourage lateral associate participation in Firm committees. Lateral associates also become part of our extensive mentoring networks, and we host a series of social events to introduce laterals to one another and to the other lawyers in the Firm.
