Willkie’s pro bono litigation team has been recognized by The AmLaw Litigation Daily for its success representing Fulton County Georgia election workers Wandrea ArShaye (Shaye) Moss and her mother, Ruby Freeman, in their defamation case against Rudy Giuliani.

A Willkie team led by partners Michael Gottlieb and Meryl Governski received a “shout out” after Rudy Giuliani filed a stipulation on July 25 conceding that the statements he made about Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman were false and that the statements carry a meaning that is defamatory per se.

The concession is a major milestone in Willkie’s clients’ fight for justice and confirms that Ruby and Shaye honorably performed their civic duties in the 2020 presidential election in full compliance with the law and that the allegations of election fraud Rudy Giuliani and former-President Trump made against them have been false since day one.

The latest developments in the lawsuit, filed in 2021, have been widely covered in the news media this week, and Michael Gottlieb and Meryl Governski appeared on MSNBC and CNN, respectively, to discuss the case.

The AmLaw Litigation Daily recognized the Willkie team that, in addition to Michael Gottlieb and Meryl Governski, includes associates Annie Houghton-Larsen, John Knoblett, Timothy Ryan, Logan Kenney and Maggie MacCurdy, and paralegal Ann Staron, along with co-counsel from Protect Democracy and Von DuBose of DuBose Miller.
