The firm was named by Global Investigations Review (GIR) in its annual guide recognizing the world’s leading investigations practices.

On November 10, Willkie was recognized in the GIR 30 (2021), a prominent ranking of the world’s leading cross-border investigations practices which forms part of the annual GIR100 guide. The guide describes Willkie as having “once again proven its record of helping companies and individuals alike secure favourable outcomes in white-collar matters” and references the team’s recent successes for a British financial institution in a “blockbuster UK fraud case”, guiding Essentra FZE to a resolution with US authorities in “a landmark settlement” involving the first case against a company for violating U.S. sanctions on North Korea, securing an acquittal for Jean Boustani (the first defeat for the DOJ’s FCPA Unit in several years), and in securing a landmark acquittal for Anglo-Dutch oil company Shell in a high-profile Italian trial over alleged bribes made to Nigerian officials. The guide notes “Those successes no doubt help explain why the firm continues to work on major matters.” It also recognizes and pays tribute to the Willkie team.

Martin Weinstein, Chair of the Compliance, Investigations & Enforcement Practice Group commented: “We are very pleased that our award-winning team has been recognized again in the GIR 30 as a top global investigations practice and as go-to lawyers for our clients’ most significant and sensitive matters. Our practice brings together diverse practitioners on both sides of the Atlantic who are among the most highly skilled in their fields and who have impressive track records of representing our clients’ interests fairly and vigorously.”

Willkie’s international Compliance, Investigations & Enforcement practice is regularly sought to handle high-profile investigations, market leading enforcement actions and complex white collar cases across multiple jurisdictions. In 2019, the group launched the Willkie Compliance Concourse app which offers legal and compliance teams free, on-demand access to comprehensive practical guides, real-time news and analysis, and CLEs covering a range of matters in relation to US, UK and French law. Since it launched, the app has had over 100,000 visits.
