Federal judge affirms jury's decision in favor of Philips on issues of infringement and validity.

Willkie has obtained victory on behalf of client U.S. Philips Corporation in the matter of U.S. Philips Corporation v. Iwasaki Electric Company, LTD.,  a patent infringement case involving high-pressure mercury-vapor discharge lamps used in laptop projectors and rear-screen televisions. Judge Castel of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York affirmed the jury's decision in favor of Philips on issues of infringement and validity.  The judge also found no inequitable conduct and issued a limited injunction.  The jury award was $43 million plus pre-judgment interest.   With respect to Iwasaki’s request for a new trial, Judge Castel held that "The verdict was consistent with the weight of the evidence, not erroneous, and has led to no miscarriage of justice. Iwasaki has demonstrated no evidentiary errors, and certainly none that warrants a new trial." The case was handled by Willkie partners John DiMatteo and Steven Reisberg.
