Willkie announces that Michael S. Schachter, formerly an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm’s New York office, where he will be specializing in white collar criminal defense matters.

Willkie is pleased to announce that Michael S. Schachter, formerly an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm’s New York office, where he will be specializing in white collar criminal defense matters. Mr. Schachter, who has an extensive background in complex securities fraud cases, including insider trading, accounting fraud, and market manipulation cases, was counsel in the trial of United States v. Martha Stewart and Peter Bacanovic, and in the prosecution of the former CEO of ImClone Systems, Samuel Waksal, among other high profile cases. Mr. Schachter will be working with the white collar criminal defense group in New York, which is headed by Benito Romano, who previously served as United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Schachter will be handling complex criminal and regulatory matters from investigation through trial.
