Telecommunications partner Philip L. Verveer is profiled in the May 15 edition of Wireless Week on his significant contributions to the development of the wireless industry and his extensive expertise in the field. The article, “Attorney Sees Wireless Through Thick And Thin,” states that Mr. Verveer “has been with not only the wireless industry since its birth decades ago, but also was a key player in its creation” and that “his influence on the industry is wide and deep.” Noting that Mr. Verveer is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of the “renowned” Willkie Farr & Gallagher, he is recognized for his current role as principal regulatory advisor to CTIA. The profile also highlights Mr. Verveer’s past service as lead antitrust lawyer at the Department of Justice, where he is credited for having been an instrumental player in the investigation and prosecution of AT&T’s antitrust case, “which led to the settlement that finally broke the company up in the 1980s, and subsequently, the moves that created the Bell companies and the first cellular markets and competitors.” Mr. Verveer told Wireless Week that the wireless and mobile wireless industries along with cable TV are among the “greatest successes” that he’s seen professionally. He forecasts that the wireless industry is due for a shakeup - that the heavily saturated market of producers will shrink to fewer players, ultimately offering better performance to customers. Mr. Verveer is a partner in the firm’s Telecommunications Department in Washington, D.C.
