Insight Venture partners leads $165 million investment in Drilling Info, Inc., acquiring majority ownership of the Austin, TX-based company.

On March 5, it was announced that Willkie client Insight Venture Partners is leading a $165 million equity investment in Drilling Info, Inc., the Austin-based data intelligence provider to the oil and gas industries. With part of the proceeds being used to buy out existing shareholders, Insight will acquire a majority ownership position in the company. The investment is expected to drive expansion and new product development for Drilling Info. With more than 20,000 users and 2,700 accounts globally, Drilling Info members produce more than 90 percent of domestic oil and gas in the United States. The company has offices throughout the U.S. oil patch in addition to the UK, Southeast Asia and South America. New York-based Insight Venture Partners is a leading private equity and venture capital firm focused on the global software, Internet and data-services industries.

Willkie has advised Insight in a host of transactions including most recently representing it as selling shareholder in Google’s acquisition of Berlin-based daily bargains website DailyDeal GmbH and assisting it in the formation of new funds totaling $2 billion. The current deal was handled by partners Gordon Caplan, Morgan Elwyn, Christopher Peters and Michael Katz, and associates Tyler Barnett, Jennifer Long and Sarah Woodberry.
