Partner Misty Sanford, Chair of Willkie’s Real Estate Department, West Coast, has been awarded UCLA School of Law’s U. Serve L.A. award for outstanding public interest and pro bono contributions. 

Misty, a leading real estate transactional lawyer based in Willkie’s Los Angeles office, was honored for her efforts to build a diverse talent pipeline and cultivate the success of attorneys of color. She is founder and treasurer of For People of Color, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering students of color to attend law school and become attorneys.

The award also recognizes her commitment to pro bono service and civic leadership. Misty’s pro bono practice includes representing park development, affordable housing and homelessness organizations, such as Skid Row Housing Trust, the Downtown Women’s Center, T.R.U.S.T. South LA and the Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation.

Misty also served as a mayoral appointee to the Board of Recreation and Parks Commissioners of Los Angeles, which directly oversees more than 400 parks and 175 recreation centers, and the Environmental Affairs Commission. 

Misty graduated from UCLA School of Law, where she completed the program in Public Interest Law and Policy, chaired the Public Interest Law Foundation and was a Hagman Land Use and Planning Scholar.
