Jonathan A. Friedman is a partner in the Communications & Media Group, focusing on communications, technology, and Internet law and policy. He regularly advises clients on regulatory matters before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other federal and state agencies.

Jonathan has extensive experience representing major cable operators, video programmers, and equipment manufacturers in rulemaking proceedings and adjudications at the FCC. He also has represented clients in various energy conservation proceedings at the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency.

  • Representing Comcast Corporation in FCC rulemakings on broadband, video devices, and accessibility policies, and Department of Energy rulemakings on energy conservation.
  • Advising Arris Group, Inc., Pace Americas, Inc., and other device manufacturers on regulatory requirements for cable and broadband equipment.
  • Advising YES Network, iN DEMAND, and other cable networks on legal and regulatory requirements affecting cable networks.
  • Advising the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) in FCC rulemakings involving equipment compatibility standards.
  • Representing the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in negotiating and drafting television football contracts with ESPN and ABC.

Selected Professional and Business Activities

Jonathan is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and has served as Co-Chair of the Special Education Advisory Committee for the Alexandria City Public Schools. He has authored numerous articles on communications and Internet law, and lectured on technology law and policy. Prior to joining Willkie, Jonathan served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Lee Hamilton.
