Our Accounting Irregularities Group specializes in the crises that may engulf a corporation in the wake of alleged accounting irregularities or other forms of financial statement misrepresentation. We were the first law firm in the United States to try an accounting-irregularities class action before a jury pursuant to the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Willkie also represented the audit committee in one of the largest and most complex accounting investigations ever, for which the firm produced a report described by the New York Times as “a case study” and by Fortune magazine as “remarkable.” Other recent accounting matters in which the firm has played a key role include Xerox, Enron, Rite Aid, HealthSouth, Leslie Fay, Lucent, Anicom, Oxford Health, Edison Schools, Elan, Just For Feet, Livent, Sensormatic, Candie’s, Party City, Physician Computer Network, A.R. Baron & Co., Fine Host Corp., Colonial Realty Co., and Empire Blue Cross. The firm regularly submits amicus curiae briefs on behalf of the AICPA and individual accounting firms on applicable cases across the country.
