Willkie represented Primary Wave Music, in its partnership with the iconic disco group, Village People. Announced February 16, the deal covers the Village People brand, sound recordings, music publishing assets, and name, image and likeness rights.
Known for their number 1 hit, “Y.M.C.A.” and multi-platinum hits “Macho Man” and “In the Navy.” Village People was founded in 1977 and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
Primary Wave Music is a leading independent publisher of legendary music and is home to some of the most iconic songwriters, artists, and record labels across the history of recorded music, including, Bob Marley, Prince, Whitney Houston and Ray Charles.
The Willkie team was led by partner Sid Fohrman, Chair of the firm’s Music and Digital Media Practice, and associate Hayley Silvertown, and included partners Steve Hurdle, Paul Lombard, Andres Mena and Matthew Makover.
