Philip L. Verveer is a partner in the Telecommunications Department of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in Washington, D.C. Mr. Verveer specializes in communications, antitrust, and administrative law. Mr. Verveer provides counseling and administrative agency representation to a variety of communications clients. Chambers Global (2008) and Chambers USA (2008) rank Mr. Verveer among the number one tier of individuals practicing in the area of telecom, broadcast & satellite (regulatory) law in Washington, D.C. Mr. Verveer is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and the American Bar Association.Prior Experience
From 1969 to 1977, Mr. Verveer served as a trial attorney in the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, where he was the first lead counsel in the investigation and prosecution that led to the Bell System divestiture. He also served as a supervisory attorney in the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition from 1977 to 1978. Between 1978 and 1981, Mr. Verveer was Chief of the Federal Communication Commission’s Cable Television Bureau, Broadcast Bureau, and Common Carrier Bureau. Mr. Verveer served as Chairman of the Federal Public Safety Wireless Advisory Committee and as U.S. Representative to INTELSAT Panel of Legal Experts. He was a charter member of the U.S. Government Senior Executive Service. In 1980, Mr. Verveer received the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award, one of the highest awards given to federal government employees.
