Joseph G. Davis is a partner in the Litigation Department of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in Washington, D.C. Mr. Davis specializes in complex litigation and corporate compliance matters.

Mr. Davis represents U.S. and non-U.S. corporations and individuals in proceedings before federal and state courts and other tribunals. He has litigated and tried numerous commercial matters, including alter ego and successor liability claims, securities actions, professional malpractice claims, insurance coverage actions, antitrust claims, RICO claims, adversary proceedings in bankruptcies, toxic tort and related environmental insurance actions and other contract and business disputes. He has represented U.S. and non-U.S. clients in connection with securities and antitrust enforcement actions conducted by the United States Department of Justice, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Labor and other regulatory agencies.

Mr. Davis has conducted a number of corporate internal investigations in industries such as securities and telecommunications. He also advises clients on laws related to wiretapping and the handling of wire and electronic communications.

Mr. Davis serves on the Board of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. He also has served on the Board of Directors of the Arlington Food Assistance Center, a not-for-profit organization that provides free groceries to low-income families in Arlington County, Virginia.

Accountant Malpractice: represented major U.S. accounting firm in defense and trial of accounting malpractice claim. See 2011 Ill. App. Unpub. LEXIS 1180.

Alter Ego/Insurance Litigation: represented U.S. and international insurance companies in defense and trial of multi-plaintiff actions in state and federal courts.

Antitrust Litigation: represented international manufacturer in California class action alleging conspiracy to exclude competitors and price fixing.

Bankruptcy Litigation: represented international steel manufacturer in $150 million adversary proceeding and various related contested matters.

Complex Litigation: representedsatellite communications company in derivative action brought against the company, former President Clinton, then-Senator Clinton, former Vice President Gore and others.

Complex Litigation: represented large international manufacturer in defense of $200 million ERISA claim.

Government Investigation: represented audio-visual products company in connection with an investigation of accounting matters by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.

Grand Jury Investigation: represented major retail company in multiple investigations regarding immigration and other alleged violations.

Insurance Coverage: represented non-U.S. insurance company in multi-jurisdiction coverage action involving enforceability of arbitration clauses under the FAA and New York Convention.

Mass Tort Litigation: represented major U.S. common carrier in toxic tort actions brought by thousands of plaintiffs in federal court in Louisiana.

Securities Litigation: represented top former officers and directors of public company in federal securities action in New York and related state-court fraud action in Florida.

Pro Bono: lead plaintiffs’ counsel in employment discrimination claims brought against affiliate of large utility.

Pro Bono: amicus briefing in the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals on behalf of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and others in the Jose Padilla (U.S. "enemy combatant") case.

Pro Bono: represented convicted federal judge before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, en banc. SeeUnited States v. Aguilar, 515 U.S. 593 (1995).
