Jonathan A. Friedman is special counsel in the Communications, Media & Privacy Department of Willkie Farr and Gallagher LLP in Washington. Mr. Friedman specializes in communications, technology, and Internet law and policy.

Mr. Friedman has extensive experience representing major cable operators, video programmers, and equipment manufacturers in rulemaking proceedings at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), including those relating to broadband policy, video devices, must carry, program access and program carriage, cable ownership, and closed captioning and other disabilities-related matters. He has represented clients in FCC adjudications involving program access and program carriage rules, as well as litigation relating to the FCC’s cable equipment rules.

Mr. Friedman also advises clients on regulatory compliance matters relating to regional and national sports networks. He has negotiated and drafted television and webcasting rights agreements on behalf of sports and other media entities. In addition, he counsels various clients on federal and state legislative activities affecting communications law and policy.

Selected Professional and Business Activities
Mr. Friedman is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and has served as Co-Chair of the Special Education Advisory Committee for the Alexandria City Public Schools. He has authored numerous articles on communications and Internet law, and lectured on technology law and policy.

Prior Experience
Mr. Friedman served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Lee Hamilton.
