Maria C. Liu is an associate in the Litigation Department. Maria has significant litigation experience in both federal and state courts, and in all phases of complex commercial litigation, including jury and bench trials. She has served as the lead associate in high-stakes litigation matters, including securities and consumer class actions, insurance coverage disputes, business torts, breach of contract, post-employment restrictive covenants, and trade secret misappropriation. Maria has experience in every phase of litigation, from assessing potential claims and defenses pre-litigation, managing large-scale e-discovery, taking and defending fact and expert depositions, successfully drafting dispositive motions to dismiss, class certification motions, and summary judgment motions, participating in several trials, and defending clients on appeal. In addition, Maria has counseled clients on compliance with state and federal regulations, and provided guidance to companies during internal and governmental investigations.

- Defeating a motion for class certification and related Rule 23(f) petition in a putative consumer class action against a nationwide beauty store retailer.
- Representing a chemical corporation in multiple phases of an environmental insurance recovery action, including at a jury trial in New York federal court and successfully at the summary judgment phase that led to an over $49 million judgment.
- Representing a global insurance brokerage client at trial in a trade secrets/non-compete litigation.
- Securing a non-prosecution agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice for a Fortune 100 client after conducting an expansive internal investigation regarding bribery and corruption.
