On December 22, Willkie secured a complete dismissal, with prejudice, on behalf of Aon in a putative data breach class action.

The lawsuit had alleged that cybercriminals accessed unauthorized personal identifying information for Aon's customers and their beneficiaries for more than a year, and alleged legal claims for deceptive business practices, negligence and unjust enrichment, as well as the breach of an implied contract and an invasion of privacy. The plaintiffs asked the court to award declaratory and injunctive relief, as well as damages with interest and restitution in amounts proven at trial. Granting Aon’s motion to dismiss, the Illinois state court dismissed all of plaintiffs’ claims with prejudice.

The Willkie team secured a complete victory on the motion to dismiss for Aon.

The Willkie team was led by partner Craig C. Martin, Chairman, Midwest, and partner LaRue Robinson, and included associates J. Mylan Traylor, Mengjie Zou and Elizabeth Astrup.
