According to Refinitiv, global buyout and related transactions reached $462 billion across 5,886 rounds in 2020, while total private equity-backed M&A during the period was $589.5 billion, or 16% of global M&A, from 9,145 rounds.

The Refinitiv PE database tracks PE and VC investments made by venture capital firms, buyout firms, generalist firms, angel investor networks, Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs), venture subsidiaries of corporations or investment banks and other similar entities whose primary activity is PE or VC investment.
