Ian K. Hochman is counsel in Willkie’s Litigation Department. Ian counsels multinational corporations on e-discovery issues in a wide range of class action, government investigation, white-collar crime, and business combination settings. Combining more than a decade of experience as a litigator with detailed knowledge of e-discovery issues with the substantive and technological presentation of electronic evidence in state and federal courts and in criminal and regulatory proceedings before the DOJ and SEC, Ian provides clients active in key sectors of the global economy with practical discovery solutions and effective trial strategies. His recognized ability to implement cost-efficient and legally defensible approaches to data retention, collecting, processing, and reviewing electronically stored information thoroughly minimizes interruptions to clients’ business continuity and the exposure of their corporate strategy.

Ian served as a law clerk to the Honorable Lacey A. Collier, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Florida (1997-1999)

  • Successfully negotiated and implemented a targeted email collection from UK-based hedge fund resulting in cost savings of more than $1 million in processing and document review costs.
  • For international financial services company, successfully completed document review and production of sensitive client data in proprietary formats totaling more than 15 million records for review while under significant time and budgetary constraints.
  • Orchestrated the collection and review of millions of hard copy and electronic records on multiple email platforms in both Korea and the United States in connection with the representation of the Audit Committee of one of Korea’s largest companies in the investigation of accounting and financial reporting issues.
  • Defended former general counsel of Hollinger, Inc. in the highly publicized four-month federal criminal trial of United States v. Conrad Black, et al. (N.D. Ill.).
