On May 1, the New York State Bar Association will present Litigation associate Shaimaa Hussein with its President’s Pro Bono Service Award (Young Attorney category) for having “rendered extraordinary pro bono service.” Ms. Hussein is the sole award recipient in this category. The NYSBA highlights that the awards are designed to “convey a message to the profession and the public about the importance of pro bono efforts in achieving equal access to justice.”

Since joining Willkie in 2011, Ms. Hussein has devoted hundreds of hours working on pro bono matters particularly on behalf of refugees. Her dedication to pro bono work has allowed a number of adults and children to build new lives in the United States, free from the persecution and threats they experienced in their home countries.

Chief Judge Janet DiFiore and Judge Jenny Rivera of the New York Court of Appeals will be participating at the event.
