Firm has been retained to represent James Gatto in high-profile federal case surrounding college basketball recruiting efforts.

Willkie’s Litigation Department has been retained to defend Adidas employee James Gatto, who was charged in federal court with wire fraud and money laundering in connection with alleged payments to student-athletes to assist in college basketball recruiting efforts. Prosecutors in the case, which has been widely reported in the press, have charged ten individuals, including four coaches at top NCAA Division I schools, financial advisers and Willkie’s client.

The matter is being led by partner Michael Schachter and associate Casey Donnelly with the assistance of associates Cole Mathews, Patricia Haynes and Victoria Sheets.
