Brussels office represents CMA CGM, the world’s third largest and France’s top container shipping company, in obtaining EC approval for its acquisition of rival OPDR.

The European Commission has approved the acquisition of short-sea intra-European container carrier OPDR by Willkie client CMA CGM, the world’s third largest and France’s top container shipping company. The Commission authorized the acquisition unconditionally “despite the parties’ apparent high combined market share” after having defined for the first time a market for intra-European, door-to-door, multimodal transport, encompassing all means of transportation including maritime, road and rail.

In April, Willkie’s Paris office represented CMA CGM and its freight forwarding subsidiary in the acquisition of a strategic stake in LCL Logistix, a leading Indian logistics company.

The current matter was handled by partner Jacques-Philippe Gunther, national partner Adrien Giraud and associates Clémence Hardy and Sylvain Petit in Brussels.
